1). Legalities & Contracts -- The Not So Fun Stuff! By : Diana Ennen
This year has been my most eye-opening year when it comes to the legalities of running a business. In 2005, I celebrated 20 years in business. I believe up until then I just sailed though when it came to the legal aspects. Oh yes, I did everything the best I could. Don’t get me wrong and I did most things right. But this year it seemed to all hit. This year I learned the importance of “protecting my business” and this year I learned the true meaning of a “contract.

9). Dog Walkers & Your Career By : Ian Christie
I was jogging in the park the other day and noticed a number of professional dog walkers. They had many dogs under their care and the necessary tools of their trade. Nothing remarkable about that.
What struck me was a) the number of providers I saw on this one visit, b) their marketing efforts, and c) the range of services offered. Parked on the streets around the park were various types of mini-van and SUV, emblazoned with each dog walking entrepreneur's web site address, phone number, slogan, and featured services.

My biggest problem in becoming self-employed was me.
In order to BE a self-employed person I had to start thinking like one. I found myself reverting to that nine-to-five mentality. If I wasn’t accomplishing a task every hour, then I must not really be working.
Sometimes a self-employed person has to make decisions about her business. Sometimes she is just thinking about a solution to a problem.
